Spooky Beavers: If you have not heard by now, Quantico Creek flooded its banks in Prince William Forest Park this week. See attached for a trail status report from Mike Custodio, Roads and Trails staff.
The park has sustained significant damage to bridges, footbridges, trail tread. For example, the Swinging Bridge at the bottom of Laurel Loop Tr is closed, The large footbridge on North Valley Tr next to Burma Rd has washed downstream.
So, I know it’s late notice, but if you can spare some time either this weekend or next week, please let me know. Our priority is to get the footbridges back into position and correct any tread or blowdown safety issues.
I’ll be in the park on Sat and Sun at 8:00 am each day. Meet me at the Shed. If you will be arriving later, please text me at (703) 376-4150 so I can direct you to an appropriate site to inspect or fix. As noted below, we’re going to prioritize our first efforts on any footbridge/blowdown issues on the SVT stretch between Pyrite Mine and Scenic Overpass.
Otherwise, when you can, get out on the your trail section to assess and/or fix. Be sure to file a worktrip report.
P.S. Go to the PWFP Facebook page to see a video of Quantico Creek flowing over Scenic Dr below Parking Lot I near the SVT boardwalk to Taylor Farm Rd Tr.
